Principal Investigator

Prof. Dr. Camila Fabiano de Freitas Marin is a permanent faculty member of the Department of Chemistry at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and the coordinator of PhotoN Lab – Research Group on Photodynamic Systems and Nanotechnology.
Her scientific work focuses on the development of functional nanomaterials applied to photodynamic therapy (PDT), with an emphasis on smart systems for controlled drug release and active targeting of tumor cells. She holds a bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the State University of Maringá (UEM), where she built her academic path by developing lipid-polymer nanosystems, metallic nanoparticles, hydrogels, and nanofibers with therapeutic and photosensitive properties. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship focused on biomedical applications of nanostructured materials, consolidating her expertise in self-assembled systems.
At UFSC, in addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, Professor Camila coordinates interdisciplinary projects that integrate nanotechnology, physical chemistry, and health innovation. She is the author of numerous publications in international journals and supervises undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. She is also the founder and lead of the extension project “Luz, Câmera, Reação!“ (“Light, Camera, Reaction!”), which aims to popularize science through visually engaging and interactive chemical experiments, fostering closer ties between the university and society. In recognition of her academic achievements and scientific engagement, she was awarded the “Women in Science – Valuing and Showcasing UFSC Talent” prize in 2025.
