About PhotoN

The PhotoN Lab – Research Group on Photodynamic Systems and Nanotechnology is an academic-scientific initiative affiliated with the Department of Chemistry at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). It is dedicated to the development of advanced nanomaterials for health applications, with an emphasis on photodynamic therapy (PDT), controlled drug delivery, and photoactive technologies.
Coordinated by Prof. Dr. Camila Fabiano de Freitas Marin, the group operates at the interface of physical chemistry, nanotechnology, materials science, and biomedicine, exploring the synthesis, characterization, and functionalization of nanosystems such as hybrid liposomes, metallic nanoparticles, smart hydrogels, electrospun nanofibers, and polyelectrolyte complexes. The projects developed at PhotoN Lab focus on innovation in safer, more selective, and more effective therapeutic and diagnostic strategies, particularly in the context of cancer and resistant infections.
